Pets first (for a change)

And, from oddJapan once again, we have a fancy dress costume for your cat. I quote: "if you're organizing a costume party and want your cat to participate, you can dress it up as a maneki neko (lucky cat). The costume set includes a golden hood with a raising pawn [sic] and a golden bib. " There’s more on the history and gestural semiology of Japanese cat figurines here, and you can see dancing maneki neko here.

Back home, Richard Adams writes in a down-to-earth sort of way about the impact of new technology in the Guardian, now a smaller, more colourful newspaper with expanded web delivery (for example its technology blog). When he observes that: " in the short time that has passed, it has become almost impossible to remember what office work was like before the arrival of the desktop PC, email and the internet" he makes a point about the ubiquity of digital literacy that we’ve been trying to make in the education world for a number of years. Time to celebrate the work of friends and colleagues, carefully summarized in this conference report.

[Pet postscript: one could always focus on dogs blogs like this one from doggiewoggie!]

  1. OMG this is so scarey. You spend your life looking up weird Japanese stuff. Actally I like the odd stuff from Japan; it has abn article about bowing. I love the twirly cats to music.
I HATE the vomit making Dog Blog.

  2. PS
I always spell SCAREY like that. IT is not a typo. It is how I spell it.

  3. I bought the Guardian today. I like the smaller size - except the smaller inside bit inside the smaller-size outside bit. The TV guide is in about 6pt and I can't read it.BUT don't you think it is bizarre that extracts from the technology blog are being published in the paper. How interconnecting is this.

  5. Am feeling really horrible now. Should not have said nasty thing about Pat's doggie woggie blog. Sorry Pat. I have an irrational dislike of dogs. Even though I am sure that most of them are fine. And I am sure I would like your dog. Oh dear. (I am walking away regretfully.)

  7. Clare, you say "The TV guide is in about 6pt" - dare I suggest a return to the opticians? Or are you still waiting for a 'fitting'?

  8. I am still waiting for my specs - but have chosen my frames and they will be made very soon - in Vision Express. BUT I shall stick to my guns - the TV page print size in the new Berliner-style Guardian is preposterously tiny. And I should know. And by the way, I don't NEED glasses to read YET because I am still vey young
