Hunting and gathering

Cherry picking

Here’s a collection of loosely related things. Loosely related, like Danah Boyd - defining social networking sites; some heavy number-crunching research on Facebook; and Clay Shirky on Social Software and the Politics of the Group. And then, guess what’s in Barbara Ganley’s bag? Travel Notes, of course!

  1. Hey, thanks for that Facebook pointer! My brother dropped a really interesting tidbit over Thanksgiving - he's 22, just out of college, and I thought an avid Facebook user, but it turns out that he's a much more devoted MySpace fan. He still does Facebook, but MySpace allows for all sort of multimedia capabilities that he's *really* psyched about. He also spent a couple of hours on the phone with a friend, taking online quizzes together to post on his MySpace. Anyway, the lesson I learned is that Facebook may not be the be-all and end-all of social networking for college students...

  2. Maybe the bubble's burst or maybe people just outgrow Facebook. Anyway thanks for your comment - keep in touch!
